When is Escape from Playtime Early Access, and what is included?

Steam Early Access is planned for October 21, 2026. The publisher describes an initial package of eight Smiling Critter characters, one starter zone and a core enemy lineup. These are launch plans checked before release on October 18, not confirmation that the build has already shipped.

Early Access date and platform

Mob Entertainment's September 20 Steam announcement set October 21, 2026 as the Early Access launch date. The official release date trailer and the later 360 cinematic trailer both repeat it. PC Gamer's September 20 preview independently reported the same plan. Every official source reviewed for this page agrees on the date.

Early Access is on Steam for Windows PC. The official FAQ says the planned launch is Steam only and lists Windows 10 and 11 as supported systems. No console or mobile Early Access was announced. Other platforms may be considered later, according to the FAQ.

When checked on October 18, the Steam listing still showed the game as not yet available. The store page uses app ID 2087540 and names Mob Entertainment as developer and publisher. That page is where Early Access will go live. Check it on launch day for the final status.

Planned launch content

The publisher's plan for the first Early Access release includes eight Smiling Critter characters. It also includes one starter zone and a core lineup of enemies. The Steam description and the official reveal both describe this initial scope. They present it as a starting point rather than the finished game.

The roster number is specific, but the names and abilities of all eight Critters were not verified for this page. The beta did not include every planned Critter. Our Smiling Critters article covers what is known about the characters. It also explains what is still unconfirmed.

Likewise, a full list of the core enemies has not been published. Miss Delight was reported in the beta by PC Gamer, and the tutorial included a Boogie Bot. Other enemies were deliberately withheld from the test. The launch lineup will need to be confirmed in the build.

How long Early Access is planned to last

The Steam Early Access statement targets roughly one year in Early Access. It ties that timing to establishing the game together with community input. The developer has kept the plan flexible on purpose. A year is a target rather than a deadline.

That means October 2027 is not a confirmed version 1.0 date. Converting the estimate into a fixed day would overstate what the developer has said. If an official roadmap is published, it will be the right source for dates. None was found in the research.

During development, the publisher expects to add more zones, features, characters, balancing and story. No calendar for those additions has been announced. Treat any dated content schedule you see online with caution. Ask whether it comes from Mob Entertainment.

The official reveal describes this as a feedback-led model, with players helping to shape what comes next. The October 8 post is an early example, since it answered beta feedback with a list of planned changes. Expect similar posts on the Steam news page throughout Early Access. Those posts are the best way to follow what is actually changing.

Pricing plans

The developer says it intends to increase the price at version 1.0. That statement appears in the Early Access section of the Steam page. It does not give a figure for the Early Access price. No verified purchase amount was shown in the reviewed listing on October 18.

Because no price was verified, this wiki does not quote one. Check the Steam page when Early Access goes live to see the amount in your region. Currency and regional pricing can differ. Our price article explains what is confirmed so far.

The beta was free to join for enrolled players, but that does not make the game free. Test access was temporary and has expired. The Midnight CatNap plush also does not include the game. The Early Access purchase will be a separate product on Steam.

Changes planned after the beta

On October 8, the developer published a post describing changes based on beta feedback. It addressed confusion among first-time players about navigation, exits, quotas and the tutorial. It also clarified healing and revival items. These are planned for the launch build.

The planned changes include an experimental map-type navigation item and clearer quota and exit cues. An exit hatch is meant to open automatically once the quota is met. Sewing kits are intended to revive, and syringes are intended to heal. The tutorial is also being revised.

None of these changes were installed in a public build at the time of writing. They need to be checked when Early Access launches. Some may arrive later than October 21. We will update our guides as each one is confirmed.

Player count in Early Access

The current English Steam page lists one to eight players. Older official copy, including the FAQ, still mentions one to four. The store page is the latest statement and is the one this wiki follows. We will recheck it on launch day.

The developer's October 8 post says the game was tuned toward three to five players. It also reports positive responses from groups of six to eight. The beta had allowed eight players while recommending four. Balance may continue to change during Early Access.

A single-player option is retained, but the developer describes the game as primarily multiplayer. Solo players should expect a different experience from a full team. Our co-op survival guide covers how groups work together. It also explains the limits of solo play.

Beta, Early Access and version 1.0

These three milestones are easy to confuse, so it helps to keep them apart. The open beta ran from October 1 to October 4, 2026 and only unlocked the first four shifts. It withheld some puzzles, lore, enemies and playable Critters. It was a test, not a release.

Early Access begins on October 21, 2026 with the planned initial package described above. It is a paid, evolving version of the game on Steam. Content and balance are expected to change throughout. Feedback from players is meant to shape that process.

Version 1.0 is the eventual full release, targeted for roughly a year after Early Access begins. It has no confirmed date. The developer plans a price increase at that point. Until then, every guide on this site describes a game still in development.
