When does Escape from Playtime come out?

Escape from Playtime is planned to launch in Steam Early Access on October 21, 2026. When this page was checked on October 18, the Steam store still said the game was not yet available. October 21 is the Early Access milestone, not a confirmed version 1.0 date or a console launch.

The confirmed Early Access date

Mob Entertainment's official Steam announcement on September 20, 2026 gave October 21, 2026 as the Steam Early Access launch date. The official release date trailer published the same day repeats that date in its description. PC Gamer's September 20 report independently corroborates the October 21 plan. Three dated sources agree on the same day.

The live Steam listing also shows the planned date. When checked on October 18, it still described the game as not yet available. That is normal for a store page a few days before launch. The listing is the place to confirm the final status on the day.

The later official 360 cinematic trailer, published on October 1, repeats October 21 as well. No official source reviewed for this page has announced a different date. If that changes, the Steam page and the developer's announcements will show it first. We will update this page if the date moves.

It is Early Access, not the full release

October 21 marks the start of Steam Early Access rather than a finished version 1.0. The Steam Early Access statement targets roughly one year in Early Access. It explicitly makes that timing depend on building the game with community input. That is a target, not a promise.

No exact full-release day has been published. It would be a mistake to turn the one-year estimate into a firm October 2027 date. The developer has left itself room to adjust based on feedback. Treat any countdown to version 1.0 as speculation.

The publisher expects to add more zones, features, characters, balancing and story during development. The initial package is described as eight Smiling Critters, one starter zone and a core enemy lineup. Those are launch plans checked before release. The build itself still has to confirm them.

The beta was a separate milestone

A public open beta ran from October 1 at 10 AM PDT to October 4 at 6 PM PDT. That was a temporary test, not the start of the game's release. Neither of the beta dates is the retail release date. Mixing them up is one of the most common errors in search results.

The official beta announcement on September 30 gave the test window, its rules and its limits. The test unlocked only the first four shifts and withheld some content. It also warned that test codes would stop working outside the window. That access has now expired.

Because creators kept uploading beta footage after October 4, some players assume the game is already out. A video's upload date is not evidence that the game can be played today. The store page remains the authority on availability. On October 18 it still showed the game as unreleased.

The October 2026 timeline at a glance

On September 20, Mob Entertainment announced the October 21 Steam Early Access date and an upcoming open beta. The open beta followed from October 1 to October 4. On October 8, the developer posted planned changes based on beta feedback.

Those October 8 changes cover navigation, the tutorial, quota and exit cues, healing and reviving. They are plans for the launch build, not a patch that has already been installed. Whether they all arrive on October 21 still has to be checked. Some may come later in Early Access.

Early Access is then planned to begin on October 21, 2026. After that, the store's Early Access statement describes roughly a year of development before version 1.0. Additional zones, characters and story are expected during that period. No dated roadmap for them was found.

Which platforms launch on October 21

The October 21 date applies to Steam on Windows PC. The official FAQ says the planned launch is on Steam only and lists Windows 10 and 11 as supported systems. Other platforms may be explored in the future, but none are announced. There is no PS5, Xbox or mobile release date.

Official trailer descriptions also contain links for separate Poppy Playtime chapters on other platforms. Those chapter links are not announcements for Escape from Playtime. Do not attach the October 21 date to a console or phone version. It belongs to Steam Early Access only.

The Steam app ID for the game is 2087540, developed and published by Mob Entertainment. Wishlisting it there is the official way to be notified at launch. Similarly named games on other stores are not this title. Check the developer name before trusting a listing.

What is unknown about unlock times

No verified global unlock time was found in the official material. The research did not establish the hour the game becomes playable on October 21. A countdown to an assumed midnight launch would therefore be a guess. We will not publish one.

Without an official time, a regional unlock table cannot be built reliably. Players in different time zones should watch the Steam page and the developer's announcements on the day. Store pages usually change status as soon as a game goes live. That is the moment to check.

If Mob Entertainment publishes an official launch time, we will add it here with the source. The same applies to any change of date. Until then, October 21, 2026 is the only confirmed timing detail. Everything finer than the day is unknown.

What to do before launch

If you want to play on day one, wishlist the game on its official Steam page. The game's price had not been verified at the October 18 check, so confirm it on the store at launch. The developer has said it plans to raise the price at version 1.0. That statement does not give an Early Access amount.

Check that your PC meets the listed requirements, which are 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and DirectX 12. The minimum hardware includes an Intel Core i3-9100 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1650 or RX 470. No storage requirement was verified in the reviewed listing. Our Steam page article covers this in more detail.

If you played the beta, remember that its access has expired and the launch build will differ. The tutorial and several systems were scheduled to change. Our beginner guide separates beta rules from announced launch changes. It is a good place to start on October 21.
